SPRING COMPETITION -16.02.08

The second round of the Notts Spring Competition was held at Bingham.  Hucknall and Linby Dolphins managed to pick up a commendable 7 firsts, 8 seconds and 11 personal bests


 

Dean Davenport, fit at last from a recent back injury, picked up 2 first slots in the 14 and under 100m individual medley and the 14 and under 50m butterfly which he swam in a new Club Record time of 30.19 seconds. Other firsts were picked up by Matthew  Bennison  (10 and under 50m breaststroke and 10 and under 25m butterfly). The 12 and under boys freestyle relay team of Dominic Hudson, Tom Howarth, Daniel Bennison and Aiden Tooby also picked up a first as did the 14 and under freestyle relay team of Dean Davenport, Matthew Hogg, Aiden Tooby and Brenn Burbanks. The hat-trick was completed by the open freestyle relay team of Brenn Burbanks,Tom Alton, Dean Davenport and Daniel Silvester.

  

Second place spots were picked up by Brenn Burbanks (14 and under 50m breaststroke and 14 and under 100m backstroke), Luke Mitchell (10 and under 50m backstroke), Tom Howarth (12 and under 50m breaststroke), Dominic Hudson (12 and under 50m butterfly).  The newly formed girl’s 8 to 9 relay team of Rosie Goddon, Ellie Batey, Amy Butt and Alexandra Lilley picked up a second place in both the freestyle and the medley relays, they were joined in their success by the equally new boys 8 to 9 medley relay team of James Hallam, Daniel Simpson, William Brown and Zac Jordan.

  

Personal best times were picked up by Matthew Bennison (2), Dean Davenport (2), Brenn Burbanks (2), Luke Mitchell, Tom Howarth, Laura Wybrow, Matthew Hogg and Tom Alton.

NOTTS MINOR GALA - 02.02.08

Having pulled out of the first round due to illness and injury, Hucknall and Linby Dolphins stormed to 2nd place in the latest round of the Notts Minor Gala League.

 

A whopping 15 firsts, 10 seconds and 14 personal bests helped secure this place.

 

With no 12 year old and only two 11 year old girls able to swim, the girls rose to the challenge and swum their hardest to help their team gain this spot.

 

Individual first places were gained by Edward Turner (10 and under 25m butterfly/ 25m backstroke and 10 and under 50m backstroke), Dominic Hudson (12 and under 50m butterfly and 12 and under 200m freestyle), Elizabeth Townley (10 and under 25m butterfly/25m backstroke), Milly Timson (11 and under 50m backstroke), Jordan Fretwell (10 and under 50m breaststroke), Tom Howarth (11 and under 50m breaststroke) and Matthew Bennison (11 and under 50m freestyle). 

 

Relay teams successful in gaining first places were: Boys 10 and under freestyle and medley relay team of Luke Mitchell, Jordan Fretwell, Edward Turner and Matthew Bennison, boys 12 and under freestyle and medley relay team of Dominic Hudson, Daniel Bennison, Aiden Tooby and Tom Howarth, boys 11 and under freestyle relay team of Matthew Bennison, Luke Mitchell, Daniel Butt and Tom Howarth, the boys 11 and under medley relay team of Edward Turner, Tom Howarth, Matthew Bennison and Daniel Butt.

 

Individual second places were gained by Daniel Bennison (12 and under 50m breaststroke), Daniel Butt (11 and under 50m backstroke), Sophie Whitley (13 and under 200m freestyle), Matthew Bennison (11 and under 50m butterfly), Aiden Tooby (12 and under 50m backstroke), Rachel Turner (13 and under 50m breaststroke) Milly Timson (11 and under 50m freestyle) and Dominic Hudson (13 and under 50m butterfly).

 

Relay teams picking up second places were boys 13 and under medley and freestyle relay team of Josh Brown, Daniel Bennison, Dominic Hudson and Aiden Tooby.

 

Personal best times were gained by Milly Timson (x2), Dominic Hudson (x3) Matthew Bennison (x2) Daniel Butt, Hayley Goodwin, Daniel Bennison, Sophie Whitley, Catherine Timson, Jordan Fretwell and Ellie Batey.

 

SPRING COMPETITION - 26.01.08

The first round of the Notts Spring Competition was held at Bramcote.  Hucknall and Linby Dolphins were up against the toughest teams in the county and managed to pick up a commendable one second and 8 third places.

Brenn Burbanks swam a fantastic 100m breaststroke in a new personal best time of 1 min 21.84 seconds, picking him up a second place here and an encouraging result for the county championships starting this Saturday (9th Feb).

The all important third places were gained by Luke Mitchell (boys 10 and under 50m backstroke), Tom Howarth (boys 12 and under 50m breaststroke), Adam Wright (boys 14 and under 50m butterfly), Matthew Bennison (boys 10 and under 50m breaststroke), Dominic Hudson (boys 12 and under 50m butterfly), Charlotte Chambers (girls open 10m breaststroke), and Brenn Burbanks (boys 14 and under 100m individual medley) and the 12 and under boys freestyle relay team of Dominic Hudson, Tom Howarth, Matthew Bennison and Aiden Tooby.

 

When swimming against such tough opposition, Dolphin’s swimmers pulled out all the stops managing a total of 14 personal best times.  These were gained by Charlotte Chambers (100m individual medley and100m freestyle), Luke Mitchell (50m freestyle, 50m backstroke), Elizabeth Townley (50m freestyle and 25m butterfly), Aiden Tooby (50m backstroke), Brenn Burbanks (100m breaststroke and 100m individual medley), Tom Howarth (50m breaststroke), Mollie Adkin (100m freestyle), Matthew Bennison (25m butterfly), Daniel Silvester (100m butterfly)  and Milly Timson (50m freestyle).

 

Head coach commented on how please he is with the swimmers’ progress and wishes the club’s stronger swimmers good luck for the county championships.  Swimmers taking part in the counties this year will be 14 year old Brenn Burbanks, 11 year old Dominic Hudson, 11 year old Tom Howarth, 10 year old Matthew Bennison and 10 year old Edward Turner.  Unfortunately Dean Davenport has had to pull out this year due to a back injury.  The club will also be entering a boys 12 and under relay team.

SPORTS LEAGUE - 12.01.08

Sutton was the venue for the first outing of the Hucknall and Linby Dolphins this year.  Although key members were missing, and many swimmers had moved into the next age category, the team put on a good performance totalling 3 first places, 2 second places and a total of 9 personal bests.

 

13 year old Sophie Whitley was first in the girls 15 and under 100m breaststroke, Tom Howarth picked up a first in the boy’s 11 and under 50m breaststroke, knocking nearly 2 seconds off his personal best time.  Dominic Hudson was first in the boy’s 11 and under 50m butterfly.

 

Second places came from Tom Howarth in the boy’s 11 and under 50m freestyle and Sophie Whitley in the girl’s 13 and under breaststroke.

 

Personal best performances were given by Daniel Bennison (100m breaststroke), enabling him to pick up his gold sprint certificate for this stroke; Tom Howarth (50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle), Tom Alton (100m freestyle and 100m backstroke); Sam Alton (100m breaststroke); Aiden Tooby (50m butterfly); Charlotte Pascoe (100m freestyle) and Milly Timson (50m freestyle).

ANNUAL GALA

NOTTS MINOR GALA ROUND 1

Hucknall Pool provided tough opposition for HUCKNALL AND LINBY DOLPHINS in the 1st round of the Autumn Minor Gala competition.

 

DOLPHINS swimmers managed a fantastic 5 first place and 5 second place swims, with a grand total of 9 personal best times.

 

In a nail biting finish the newly formed boys 8 to 9 medley relay team of Jordan Fretwell, Daniel Wright, Luke Mitchell and Joseph Lindsey-Taylor pulled off a first.  Other wins came from Edward Turner (boys 10 and under 25m backstroke / 25m breaststroke), Evie Goddon (girls 10 and under 25m backstroke / 25m breaststroke), Milly Timson (Girls 10 and under 50m freestyle and Thomas Howarth (boys 10 and under 50m freestyle). 

 

Second places were picked up by Matthew Bennison (boys 10 and under 50m backstroke and 11 and under 50m butterfly), Edward Turner (boys 11 and under 50m backstroke), Thomas Howarth (boys 10 and under 25m breaststroke / 25m freestyle), Evie Goddon (11 and under 50m backstroke / 50m breaststroke)

The 9 personal best times came from Edward Turner (50m backstroke and 25m backstroke / 25m breaststroke), Catherine Timson (50m freestyle and 50m backstroke), Daniel Bennison (4x25m Individual medley), Elizabeth Townley (50m backstroke), Dominic Hudson (50m butterfly), Abigail Brown (50m backstroke), and Milly Timson (50m freestyle).

NOTTS DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE - 02/06/07 

In the final round of the Notts Development League swum at Mansfield and the last gala of the season, HUCKNALL AND LINBY DOLPHINS managed sixth place out of the seventeen clubs entered.

Dolphin swimmers chalked up 7 firsts, 12 seconds and a stunning 21 personal best times.

 

10 year old Edward Turner made it a double with firsts in the 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly, matched by 9 year old Elizabeth Townley in the 25m breaststroke and 25m freestyle.  Other firsts were from Mollie Adkin (12/13 yr. 50m backstroke), Luke Mitchell (9 yr. 25m freestyle) and Josh Brown (12/13 yr. 25m breaststroke).

 

Important seconds were by led by a hat trick from the boys 9 year relay team of Jordan Fretwell, Matthew Bennison, Joe Offler and Luke Mitchell, twice in the freestyle relay and once in the mixed relay.  Individual seconds came from Jordan Fretwell (9 yr. 25m breaststroke), Hayley Goodwin (10/11 50m backstroke), Milly Timson (10/11 50m backstroke), Edward Turner (10/11 25m freestyle), Eleanor Marley (10/11 25m freestyle), Elizabeth Townley (9 yr. 50m backstroke) and Daniel Bennison (12/13 50m butterfly).

Northern Swimming Club Open Meet

Matthew Bennison Aged 9 crowned Top Boy

 

Matthew a keen member of Hucknall and Linby Dolphins Swimming Club was crowned Top Boy at this open swimming gala.

 

He gained first places in all his races to earn this title.

10 year old Tom Howarth who picked up a 2nd in the 50m breaststroke in a time of 48.08s, 7th in the 100m individual medley (1.36.25s) and 9th in the 50m freestyle (37.71s)

 

11 year old Dominic Hudson picked up 7th in the 50m butterfly (43.54s) and 10th in the 50m freestyle (36.99s)

In the final round of the JC Dobb Memorial Trophy swum at Mansfield, HUCKNALL AND LINBY DOLPHINS picked up 5 first place and 3 second place swims – and a total of 12 personal best times.

 

End of exam Proms meant several key members of the club were missing from the gala.

Personal best times were led by Adam Wright who knocked 7 seconds off his previous time for 50m butterfly.  Others were achieved by Catherine Timson (50m backstroke and 50m freestyle), Hayley Goodwin (25m backstroke and 25m breaststroke), Rachel Turner (50m butterfly), Tom Howarth (50m breaststroke, Milly Timson (25m freestyle), Mitchell Ellison (50m freestyle), Aiden Tooby (50m backstroke), Evie Goddon (25m butterfly) and Edward Turner (25m breaststroke).

 

NOTTS DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE - 02/06/07 

In the first round of 1st  round of the Notts Development League swum at Hucknall,  HUCKNALL AND LINBY DOLPHINS managed 6 first places, 21 second places and 23 personal best times.

 

Leading the first places was Matthew Bennison with a double in the 9 years 25m butterfly and the 50m breaststroke, his brother Daniel also notched up a first in the 12/13 25m butterfly.  Other firsts were from Luke Mitchell (9 year 25m backstroke), Evie Goddon (10/11 50m breaststroke), and the 8/9 year boys relay team of Joe Offler, Matthew Bennison, Jordan Fretwell and Luke Mitchell.

 

The huge haul of 2nd places were gained by Mollie Adkin (12/13 25m butterfly, 25m backstroke, 50m freestyle and 50m breaststroke), Stephen Whitley (10/11 50m backstroke, 25m butterfly and 25m breaststroke), Milly Timson (10/11 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle), Hayley Goodwin (10/11 25m backstroke and 25m butterfly), Josh Brown (12/13 50m breaststroke, 25m butterfly and 50m freestyle),  Jordan Fretwell (9 years 25m backstroke), Daniel Butt (10/11 25m backstroke), Luke Mitchell (9 years 50m freestyle), and Evie Goddon (10/11 25m butterfly). The 9 year old relay team of Joe Offler, Matthew Bennison, Jordan Fretwell and Luke Mitchell pulled off a hat trick of 2nd places.

MIDLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS

 

Dean Davenport – turned 14 last weekend

 

Has for the first time been picked for the ‘Midland Age Group Swimming Championships’ held on Saturday 9th June.

 

He has been called up to represent Nottingham in the 14 and under 4x100 Freestyle relay team, the 4x200 freestyle relay team and the 4x 100 medley relay team.

 

He has also made the entry times for the 100m Butterfly, 200m Butterfly and the 200m Freestyle individual races

 

Dean, who joined Hucknall and Linby Dolphins a year ago, follows his success in the County Champs where he finished 3rd overall in his age range.

 

Mum Jacqui Davenport says that she has been impressed with the quality of coaching at Dolphins and that Dean is over the moon to meet the qualifying times for the first time

COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS

HUCKNALL AND LINBY DOLPHINS SWIMMING CLUB have released the results of their swimmers in the Nottinghamshire County Championships – the elite competition that determines the best swimmers in the county. Part of a significant move forward by the club saw many more DOLPHINS swimmers reaching the qualifying grade than in recent years and this was rewarded by some superb results.

 

Leading the performances was Dean Davenport who picked up three first places in the boys 13 years age group (100m breaststroke, 50m butterfly and 100m butterfly), three second places (50m breaststroke, 200m freestyle and 200m butterfly), one third place (100m individual medley) and two fourth places (50m freestyle and 200m individual medley). Across all swimmers in his age group Dean picked up third place.

 

In the 9 year old boys age group Matthew Bennison picked up a superb two first places (50m breaststroke and 100m individual medley), two third places (50m backstroke and 50m butterfly) and one fourth place (50m freestyle). Also in the 9 year old boys Edward Turner came second in the 50 butterfly, fourth in 50m backstroke, 6th in 50m freestyle, 7th in 100m individual medley and 8th in 50m breaststroke.

 

Thomas Howarth in the 10 year old boys age group picked up fifth place in 50m breastroke and 9th place in 50m freestyle, while in the 11 year old boys, Daniel Bennison came 14th in the 50m breastroke and 20th in the 50m butterfly.

 

Three girls from DOLPHINS also made the grade, with Sophie Whitley  in the 12 year girls coming 6th in 50m breastroke and 13th in the 100m individual medley; Evie Goddon in the 10 year age group picking up 21st in 50m breastroke and 37th in 50m butterfly; and Milly Timson, also in the 10 year olds picking up 28th in the 50m freestyle.

 

In the freestyle events, the 10 year old boys (Edward Turner, Matthew Bennison, Thomas Howarth and Domonic Hudson) had a particularly exciting time, picking up third in the freestyle relay and an unfortunate disqualification robbing them of second in the individual medley relay (having picked up second in the heats behind the eventual winners)

 

The 14 year old boys relay team (Dean Davenport, Matthew Hogg, Chris Brown and Chris Hunt) came 14th in the freestyle relay and 18th in the medley relay.

J C DOBB - 28/04/07

In the latest round of the JC Dobb Memorial Trophy held at Hucknall, HUCKNALL AND LINBY DOLPHINS picked up a credible third place – with several new swimmers representing the club: 8 yr. old Ellie Batey, 9 yr. old Luke Mitchell, 12 yr. old Amber Foster, 13 yr. old Mollie Adkin, 17 yr. old Yasmin Foster.

JAMIE RIGLEY - 31/03/07

Hucknall and Linby Dolphins were one of 6 teams to compete in the first Jamie Rigley Memorial Gala held at Hucknall leisure centre this Saturday.  Jamie was a member of Ilkeston swimming club who tragically died just before Christmas.

 

Although short of older female swimmers, Dolphins still pulled off a creditable 6 first and 8 second places and a fantastic 19 personal best times.

 

Leading the club wins was senior girls team captain Charlotte Chambers who picked up 1sts in the 15 and under and open 50m breaststroke races and a second in the 15 and under 50m freestyle.   Other firsts were by Dean Davenport (15 and under 50m butterfly), Edward Turner (10 and under 25m backstroke) and Tomas Howarth (10 and under 25m breaststroke) and the boys 10 and under freestyle relay team of Edward Turner, Tom Howarth, Stephen Whitley and Jordan Fretwell.

 

Important second places went to junior girls team captain Sophie Whitley (13 and under 50m breaststroke), Dominic Hudson (11 and under 50m breaststroke and 25m butterfly), Stephen Whitley (10 and under 50m butterfly), Aiden Tooby (11 and under 50m freestyle), the boys 11 and under freestyle relay team of Aiden Tooby, Dominic Hudson, Bradley Hogg and Tom Howarth and the boys 10 and under medley relay team of Edward Turner, Tom Howarth, Stephen Whitley and Jordan Fretwell.

 

Personal best swims were achieved by Charlotte Chambers x3, Dominic Hudson x2, Matthew Hogg, Ellie Brown, Jordan Fretwell, Alec Leverton, Tom Alton, Aiden Tooby, Tom Howarth, Milly Timson, Chris Hunt, Richard Smith, Matthew Hunt, Chris Brown, Evie Goddon and Edward Turner.

NOTTS SPRING COMPETITION - 27/01/07

In the first round of 1st  round of the Notts Spring Competition swum at Bingham HUCKNALL AND LINBY DOLPHINS managed fourth place against  tough opposition from some of the best teams in the county.

 

There were debut swims from 9 year olds Jordan Fretwell, Daniel Wright, Ellie Brown and Olivia Turner.  Also making his first outing for Dolphins was open category swimmer Daniel Sylvester.

 

Dolphins managed 5 first place and 2 second place swims, with a superb total of 24 personal best times (out of just 31 races!)

 

The first place swims came from the 8/9 boys relay team (Edward Turner, Matthew Bennison, Jordan Fretwell and Daniel Wright) in both the freestyle and medley relays, Thomas Howarth (boys 10 and under breaststroke), Dean Davenport (boys 14 and under freestyle) and Charlotte Chambers (girl’s open 100m breaststroke).

 

The two second places came from Stephen Whitley (boy’s 10 and under 50m backstroke) and  Dean Davenport (boy’s 14 and under individual medley)

 

Triple personal best times were recorded by  Rachel Turner (50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke and 100m backstroke), Charlotte Chambers (100m individual medley, 100m freestyle, and 100m breaststroke) and Dean Davenport (100m butterfly, 100m freestyle and 100m individual medley), with doubles by Thomas Howarth (50m freestyle and 50m breaststroke), Sophie Whitley (100m breaststroke and 50m butterfly), Stephen Whitley (50m backstroke and 25m butterfly) and singles by Alec Leverton (100m individual medley), Brenn Burbanks (100m breaststroke), Milly Timson (50m backstroke), Chris Brown (50m butterfly), Tom Alton (100m freestyle), Evie Goddon (50m breaststroke), Hayley Goodwin (25m butterfly), Aiden Tooby (50m freestyle) and Hannah Brandham (50m freestyle).
